I am Janet Zimmer,  a retired professional portrait and event photographer.  I live with my husband and my best buddy, a small green parrot, in beautiful Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. My current photography interests include wildlife, especially birds,  travel photography. -- and photographing my friends and their pets.

I fell in love with photography as a child and learned with a fully manual camera using black and white film.  Since then, I have studied extensively at Pratt Institute, the International Center of Photography, Maine Media Workshops, & Silvermine Arts Center, and at Professional Photographers of America programs and other professional workshops.

And did I mention that I am an avid animal lover? I have owned virtually every type of pet imaginable—dogs, cats, birds, a rabbit, turtles and lizards -- so I know that pets are important and beloved members of our families.   I have also volunteered for years at various pet and wildlife organizations, including the Bronx Zoo,  the Connecticut State Animal Response Team, and the Mystic Aquarium's Marine Mammal Rescue Team, and for the past several years at the Birds of Prey Center/ Avian Medical Center in Awendaw, SC.
Combining my love of photography with my love of animals is a natural for me, which is why I have always focused on pet portraits and wildlife as a specialty.
